"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
-Harriet Tubman
Wednesday, May 31st was my first ever group ride and longest so far...
I am incredibly grateful to Landry's Bicycle for their Wednesday Casual Ride.
Neil, one of the ride leaders, went above and beyond to make sure I was riding safely and encouraged me to give my best...
During the ride, he will say things like : ''One more mile; this is the last hill...'' Of course it wasn't the last hill !
I have no athletic background, nor do I claim to be a cyclist at all.
I am just a filmmaker who stumbled by serendipity on the story of Major Taylor, 1899 World Bicycle Champion and perhaps the greatest cyclist/athlete of all time (THE G.O.A.T).
Major Taylor story has no equivalence in the athletic World.
He was a pioneer and trailblazer and his character and sportsmanship were exceptional to say the least.
He broke the color line in cycling a half century before Jackie Robinson did in Baseball.
For the last two years, I have been working to bring Major Taylor story to millions of people around the World.
So far, we have managed to raise a little money and where able to produce a trailer concept to demonstrate the vision of the film that we are planing to produce.
You can watch the trailer concept below:
To raise critical funds for the film, I have partnered with the Major Taylor Iowa Cycling Club to ride 500 miles across Iowa in July 2023.
I started training a month ago, mainly at the gym while I was looking around for a bike that will be affordable and fit me well.
Luckily for me, when I reach out to the Bike Connector in Lowell-Mass, they decided to donate a Road Bike for the cause and Voila ! Thanks for thier generousity.
Do you want to know how my first group ride last Wednesday when down ? Watch the livestream below for details and commentary.
Your support is motivating me to keep riding and will help make this long awaited film project a reality.
Since my ride, I have learned a lot of new stuffs about cycling in general and I am also realizing how expensive this sport can be...getting a bike is just the begining.
To enjoy a safe ride, you need a helmet, cycling jersey, cycling shoes, repair tools in case of a flat tire or a mechanical issues on the road, you also need a decent computer/odometer, bell, front and rear light, water bottle etc...the list keep going.
Nevertheless, I have learned a lot since my last group ride and most of all I found out about this quote that now some up the mentality I will be carrying on for the rest of my training and the ride itself.
The quote is from a Belgian former professional road and track bicycle racer who is among the most successful riders in the history of competitive cycling.
It says:
''Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel. But Ride.'' Eddie Merckx
I cannot do this without your support as it takes a village to accomplish any great endeavors of live. The Major Taylor film documentary has been long awaited and I am going to do whatever it takes to make it happens. I know you will not let me down ...So I am expecting to see your name on this Campaign/ride supporters and donors.
Finds out how you can HELP this journey HERE
