About the event

This incredible piece of contemporary art from ''LG Art Factory'' is meant to pay homage to Major Taylor, America’s first African American globally recognized superstar and first to win a world championship in cycling.

Louis Garneau, Canadian born cycling champion, artist, Olympian, and winner of Fitchburg’s 1983 Longsjo Bicycle Race, has announced a $1 million fundraising project to support the film “Whirlwind,” a planned documentary directed by Cyrille Vincent of Worcester.

In just a 24 hour time span, Louis Garneau created 100 unique Major Taylor paintings that will be offered for sale world-wide, and the Boulder Art Gallery is excited to have one!

On display with the painting will be a fully restored 1900 Iver Johnson racing bike, the exact model that Major Taylor rode to victory while sponsored by Iver Johnson. This rare cycle, made right here in Fitchburg, is one of only a handful remaining in the country.
